ten months old

nuggie turned ten months today and i must declare that we, her parents, are EXHAUSTED. the term "into everything" was redefined for us this month though i'm sure we'll look back on this time soon enough and think "we had it so easy back then!" thea moves at the speed of light and when we gently try to redirect her from yanking cords out of power sockets, she's on to the next thing before we can catch up. we turn our eyes for a second and she's already climbed to the fourth or fifth step racing upstairs laughing as she goes.

noteworthy moments from the last 30 days include taking a single step while standing [followed immediately by falling on her behind], eating meats like chicken and sausage which she positively SHOVELS into her mouth [sorry PETA, this kid is no vegetarian], sharing and making a T-H sound [for thank you], and saying hi! it's completely thrilling to hear her say "hi" in the appropriate context. her little voice is so adorable!

i feel like this is as good a time as any to reveal another one of nuggie's nicknames, especially since football season is upon us. thea and i read books in bed almost every morning before we get up and start the day. sometimes zack is with us, sometimes not. thea usually sits and listens intently for awhile and then she starts flailing herself all over the bed trying to explore what's beyond the stacks of pillows walling her in. she quite honestly resembles a running back attempting to power over a pile-up intent upon the end zone. as a result, i started calling her jerome [as in "the bus" bettis] back in july and somehow it's stuck. we only call her this when she's so focused and driven and uses her [extremely powerful] legs to break through even the toughest of forts that we've built to contain her. i considered changing the title of our blog to "nugget. monkey. jerome." but it just doesn't have the same ring to it.

slippery when wet

here's a video of nuggie just before her bath last night.

sorry for all the background noise...not only was the bath water running but zack was vacuuming downstairs. thea still cries whenever she hears the vacuum so we [and by we i mean zack because he does all of our cleaning, bless his heart] have to strategically vacuum when there is other noise to drown out the sound.

anyway, i doubt thea would have noticed as she was quite enthralled with her shampoo bottle:

almost half my height

i took a short video of thea yesterday morning and she seemed so much taller than the last time i captured her standing in her crib. i hadn't noticed the difference until this moment and it's remarkable:

one hundred and one

lots of big news in the world of miss nugs this week.

last monday thea began sharing, out of the blue, just like that. now she tries to hand everything to me and zack, back and forth back and forth, with a huge grin on her face. "sharing is fun mom and dad!" "share with me!" "here you go!" "take this. and that. again. and again." i always respond with a grandiose "oh thank you!" which makes her laugh but it gets difficult to muster up the same enthusiasm after the 50th time of accepting the cap to her sippy cup.

even bigger, sometime in the hours between early sunday morning and this morning, thea's top right front tooth popped through. never a dull moment around here i tell you. i've been worried about this since she had her surgery last february when the doctor told us her upper teeth might come in funny, and who knows they still might, but this one looks pretty normal so far. fingers are crossed!

lastly, we had nuggie's nine month check-up this morning - two weeks late - and thea is weighing in at exactly 20 pounds [73rd percentile] and measuring 30 inches [97th percentile!]. "off the charts," according to dr upton. ahem, did i hear that correctly?! it's just so hard for me to comprehend the fact that i'd take part in producing tall offspring. me, who spent my entire childhood and young adulthood being the smallest person [by a long shot!!] among my peers. me, who had a party to celebrate hitting the five foot mark, WHEN I WAS 17.

woo hoo!

ps: we will be watching thea's grandfather on QVC tomorrow, sept 15, at 12pm EST where he will be promoting these. i encourage you to do the same!

nb: this is post number 101, hence the title, which is a huge feat for me. i've started a journal at the beginning of almost every year since i hit puberty and it's always ends miserably: i earnestly make entries until about the first week of february before abandoning it until january rolls around again. so while i admit i've been posting less than i'd like recently, i'm pleased i've made it this far.

sullivan's island, sc

a few of my favorite photos from the week:

thank you gma and jimbo for an amazing week of good company, relaxing, swimming, playing cards and eating. while all our lunches and dinners were pretty great, i don't believe anything can top the a.w. shucks experience!

thea's second tooth popped up while we were in south carolina last week and it's crooked! guess we better start contributing to that "orthodontist" fund now.

foot fetish

it became evident when we were in south carolina last week [we had such a good time with everyone! a big THANK YOU to g.ma and jimbo for bringing us together each year!] that thea takes a special interest in feet...specifically her adorable cousin max's feet. hopefully she won't turn out to be as creepy as tanner p.

little maxie was such a good sport as she first inspected every inch:

before proceeding to suck his toes:

and lick the soles of his feet:

aunt becky, your kid sure tastes good. i love me some max!

here's a short video of the incident, sadly i just caught the tail end:

more photos from our vacation are coming soon!
